CSIE has been at the forefront of developments in inclusive education for over 40 years. Part of our work is at grassroots level, engaging with educators, students, parents/carers and young people themselves, to support inclusion in everyday school life. At the same time, we know that lasting change needs to address policy as well as practice, because inclusion cannot take root without significant systemic change. For this reason, much of our work focuses on the transformation that is needed across the education system as a whole.

We engage with policy-makers, for example by taking part in roundtable discussions and responding to national consultations, we engage in research, and we work with disabled people’s organisations and others who share our vision, as well as people in local authorities and multi-academy trusts, who have the power to make change happen on a wider scale.
