With the Department for Education and Ofsted increasingly acknowledging the benefits of inclusive education, we have been focusing more of our work in specific geographical areas, to enable the various strands of our work to complement each other and lead to stronger and longer-lasting impact.

For example, supporting schools and other educational settings to build capacity to include disabled children is likely to have greater impact in areas where we have also worked with parents/carers, local authority officers and senior leaders & governors of local schools, multi-academy trusts and other educational settings.

Our bespoke support for local authorities and multi-academy trusts that want to develop more inclusive education is best described as follows:

Consultancy on a range of issues

  • building capacity to respond to SEND-related issues effectively

  • creating bespoke resources to support inclusive school development

  • observing particular processes (e.g. annual reviews, place allocation panels) and advising how these can better support inclusion

  • reviewing the experience and learning outcomes of pupils with labels of SEND

  • facilitating stakeholder workshops on issues such as EHCPs

Bespoke training for LA/MAT officers and other local stakeholders

  • training on statutory equality duties and developing more inclusive schools, colleges and early years settings

  • training for different stakeholders including parent/carer forums, SENDIASS and local charities

  • training-for-trainer events on the workshops which CSIE offers for teachers, SENCOs, learning supporters and parents

  • other bespoke training in negotiation with the LA/MAT

Two EDIB workshops per year for senior leaders

  • These are 2.5-hour workshops on Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), for senior leaders and governors in local schools, colleges and early years settings.

In each LA or MAT commissioning our support, we offer a 20% discount to local schools, colleges and early years settings on all CSIE resources and services, which is reflected in our fee. In this way, CSIE’s expertise can better support the development of inclusive education locally, both strategically and at grassroots level. We are also available to work with local parents and other key stakeholders, to ensure an even stronger impact.

LAs and MATs commissioning CSIE’s bespoke support will also have an opportunity to share their experiences and learning with one another, further benefitting from peer support. This work may be monitored by an academic research team looking at how change happens. Findings will be shared with the LA or MAT and may form part of a new resource that presents drivers of effective change for inclusive education.

We understand that LAs and MATs have different requirements, so we offer 3 levels of support:

Band 1

Up to 6 days consultancy & training per year. 2 EDIB workshops for senior leaders per year. 20% discount for local schools on CSIE resources & services.
